Treatment Takes an Army, Appreciation Requires One: Embracing Gratitude

Estimated read time 3 min read

Recently, I shared a short article about the importance of stopping to smell the flowers, and yesterday was one of those days that truly reminded me of its significance.

Yesterday, I underwent my latest infusion to manage my Crohn’s disease. It’s been a part of my routine for several years now, and I consider myself incredibly fortunate to receive these treatments every six weeks. I am fully aware that not everyone is as fortunate—some struggle to receive a timely diagnosis, while others face the daunting challenge of surviving the harsh side effects. Back in 2017, I had my own experience with the unexpected discovery of my condition. Moreover, the financial burden and lack of insurance coverage make it even more difficult for many to access the prohibitively expensive treatments they need.

Typically, I bring my work along with me during my three-hour treatment sessions, making the most of the time. It usually helps the hours fly by. However, yesterday was different. I didn’t have my work laptop with me, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the presence of the amazing individuals I interacted with—people who dedicate their time and expertise to support and assist me. In that moment, I felt an overwhelming need to express my gratitude, even if it was through sharing corny jokes and engaging in meaningful conversations.

I understand the delicate balance between sharing personal and professional information on LinkedIn. However, I firmly believe that it’s important to remember to embrace life to the fullest. If my perspective can positively impact even one person, then the time invested in writing this post is unquestionably worthwhile.

This morning, I came across a poignant LinkedIn post from a gentleman bidding farewell after a courageous battle with cancer. He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to those who had played a part in impacting his business. It served as a powerful reminder that life is what we make of it, and not everything is within our control.

Let’s cherish every moment, appreciate the support we receive, and extend our gratitude to those who make a difference in our lives. Together, we can navigate the unpredictable journey and make the most of each day.

For those who need more information or just someone to talk to about living with Crohn’s just message me, I’m always happy to talk. Other support can be found:
