STOP – Smell the flowers

Estimated read time 1 min read

I wanted to share a note with you all, and with myself, as we navigate our career journeys. Yesterday, after spending a long day in front of my computer, I stepped outside and noticed that our amaryllis had bloomed. Although I had seen the buds earlier in the week, I completely missed the moment when the flower opened up—it was now in full bloom. This reminded me of the importance of not just focusing on finding employment, but also taking the time to appreciate what’s happening around us.

As a result, I placed a post-it note above my monitor with a simple message: STOP. It serves as a gentle reminder to occasionally pause my networking, job applications, and company research, and simply enjoy life.

It’s essential to enjoy life, my friends. Yes, we have bills to pay and retirement to save for, but life doesn’t come with guarantees. We need to embrace each day to the fullest.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. I genuinely hope the weather is wonderful wherever you are, and that you can take some time off to relax and recharge.

All the best,

Jack
